Principal's Message: What's up with Google Chats edition

Happy Wednesday,
What’s up with Google Chats? DoDEA has done a great job of providing a wealth of resources for our students through the Google suite of resources, which allow our students to interact with teachers through Google Classroom, to easily access documents, and to build an applicable knowledge base with technology. With this, our students have historically had access to instant messaging tools within the Google platform via Google Chats/Hangouts. As a school, we have provided direction and guidance on appropriate use of these tools. Unfortunately, as an administrative team, Ms. D’Angelo and I have spent a large amount of time monitoring poor decisions from students that extend well beyond expected behaviors. Therefore, KMS has removed access to Google Chat functions within student log-ins. We would like to continue to foster the positive partnership we have with our families and ask for your continued support in monitoring online activity of your student(s). Making positive online decisions is a life-long skill that has potentially life-long negative effects.
Speaking of Google, we do have some good news. In January KMS will be a 1:1 campus. That is, each of our students will be assigned a Chromebook to utilize at school and at home for the school year. In the coming weeks we will be providing much more information.
Important Reminders:
- Very Important! With colder weather comes an increase in student illness. Please support us in ensuring that students stay home when not well.
- Grades! We are at the mid-way point in the quarter. Have you checked grades?
- December 1: As a reminder from the October 25th Principal’s Message, this is the deadline for the flu vaccine to ensure continued enrollment. Refer to “Influenza Letter and Flu Shot Offerings” for details concerning school enrollment impacts.
- December 6th, 0830, building 1178: Come join the KMS admin duo for our 2nd installment of “Chatting with Admin”. Enjoy a hot cup of kinder punch, meet other parents, hear about ways to get involved, ask questions, and find out about this thing called….School Advisory Committee.
Have a great week!
