Happy Wednesday!

We are currently at the mid-point of Teacher Appreciation Week, and with that comes a great opportunity for us all to pause and reflect on those who have contributed to the academic and social growth of our children. It’s also a great time to acknowledge the impacts that educators have given to our own growth and development. Having grown up in a household of educators, I had a bit of an inside view as a kid of the sacrifices that teachers give to provide rich experiences for students. Whether it was late nights supporting school events, grading schoolwork into the evening hours, working multiple jobs to make ends meet, professional development outside of the school, or the emotional impact that teaching took on my parents, I grew up with understanding that education extends well beyond the school day or school year. Summers off were never summers off, teaching is a year-round endeavor. Outside of my experience of being the child of educators, I had some amazing people in my life who, without them, would not be where I am today. I joke sometimes that I became a school principal so that I could see what the other side of the desk looked like. Mr. Moore, my high school assistant principal gave so much of his time for me. Sometimes that was because he needed to, and sometimes it was because I needed his leadership. From him, I learned that kindness does not mean weakness, I learned that perseverance is important, and I learned that failure is not only okay, but also valuable in our growth as humans. Coach Vrba, my high school health teacher and my favorite football coach was an incredible person who was a man of high moral and ethical character that extended a loving heart and a generous soul to each person he came across. He taught me that having pride in our work, holding ourselves with class and dignity, and having poise in the midst of defeat is most important. As I reflect on my personal experience, I want to acknowledge the tireless work our KMS staff do each day to plan and deliver instruction for our students. I also want to acknowledge the positive impact that our staff has on the growth and development of our students as great humans. In partnership with our parent community, our teachers are building a generation of leaders who will change the world (for the better). It’s a hard journey we take as a team, and I am proud of the contributions that our teachers give each day. Join me in extending gratitude for a well-deserved Teacher Appreciation Week. Speaking of, huge shout out to the KMS PTSA and the parent community at large. Thank you for making this week a special one for our staff!

I would be remiss if I didn’t give, at least, a quick shout out to all the moms out there. I could write for hours about the amazing women/moms in my life. My mom, mother-in-law, grandmothers, and my wife are the glue that hold the family together, and they deserve more than just 1 day to honor them. I extend this sentiment to all moms, and I want to wish all our KMS moms a wonderful Mother’s Day. Hey husbands and kids, this is your reminder…. May 12th is Mother’s Day!

All right, enough of the mushy stuff!
