Principal's Message: Important Details for this week!

Happy Friday, KMS students, parents, families, and Friends! This week’s message is coming a few days later than normal due to the school cancelation for ice/snow. Speaking of, wasn’t the snow beautiful? As a Texas boy, I sure enjoy the soft and fluffy snow rather than the icy stuff I am used to back home. I have an idea…. Big shout out to our KMS Orchestra musicians and Joel Helston (KMS Music Teacher Extraordinaire). Unfortunately, their performance last night had to be canceled due to inclement weather, but don’t fret. For those of us who love great music, January 25^th at 18:00 will be DoDEA Europe’s Swing and Sing Festival. This free event is being held Congress Center Ramstein (formally the Haus des Buergers), at 18:00. You can also see a live stream via the DODEA Europe Facebook page. Check it out!

Reminder from last week, please take note of this important information! 

• January 24^th, 1530-1800: Student Chromebook pick-up. This is a chance for our parents to drop-off paperwork, complete required paperwork, and a venue for our kids to log-in for the very first time. Required paperwork will be sent in a separate email to parents. We will have copies available on January 24^th, as well.  See flyer (Laptop Pick Up Guide flyer) for more details. 
• As we continue our journey into 21^st century teaching and learning, students having access to reliable and safe technology at home and at school is important. Each student will be issued a Chromebook that will be used by them for the school year. They will be able to utilize these at home and is a great way for us to leverage the digital world. With many of our classes having digital textbooks, assignments being digitized, etc. this is a long time coming! 
• NEW! All student computers will be monitored via a new internet filter, Lightspeed. View the Lightspeed Filter document for more information. 

Important dates:

• January 31^st, 15:30-16:30, KMS Library: School Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting. The SAC serves as an advisory role. This will be our first meeting with newly elected members. 
• February 1^st: Yearbook photos for any students unable to get pictures done in the fall. Students who have their picture taken will be provided with a 1 page handout on how to access photo’s through the photographer.  
• February 5^th - NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress; Nation's Report Card) 8^th Grade Only 
• February 8^th - Spelling Bee (after school 3pm)
• February 14^th: Installment # 3 of our admin community outreach. This edition of Coffee with Admin will have a special Valentine’s flare. View the Coffee with the KMS Admin flyer for more information. 
• February 15^th – Student Council sponsored Dance.
