Principal's Message: The chock full of information and acknowledgements edition

Students, parents, families, and friends of KMS, good morning. This week’s message is chock full of information and acknowledgements.

April is Month of the Military Child, so I would be remiss if I didn’t publicly acknowledge the incredible young men and women who grace our classrooms each day. It is not lost on me how incredibly fortunate I am to lead a group of amazing teens and pre-teens. Interestingly, the KMS Key of Excellence for April is, Flexibility. In my experience over the last 12+ years working with Military connected youth, this definition perfectly defines our students.

Flexibility is the willingness to try something different when we realize that what we’re doing isn’t working. Many times a day we are faced with situations that are different from what we had originally planned. One way to deal with these situations is to be rigid and continue to do things in the same way over and over—another is to handle them with flexibility. Being flexible is responding to changing or new situations in ways that move us forward.

We have some cool stuff going on for Month of the Military Child, which includes some sweet treats, live music, and today we will be on our Red-Top for a school-wide arial photo. Thank you for sending us your student(s)!

What’s on the horizon?

  • Today, April 9, 1530, KMS Library: Coffee with Admin: This is our 2nd afternoon event. Our Coffee with Admin events are opportunities to meet fellow parents, hear about things going on at KMS, and to just generally stay connected with the school.
  • April 10, 1530, KMS Library: School Advisory Committee meeting.
  • April 14-15: STAMP (STAndards-based Measurement of Proficiency) assessment for all students in 7th or 8th grade who are taking a World Language (German or Spanish) for high school credit.
  • April 21, 0900, KMS Library: Coffee with Admin

As I close out this week’s Principal’s Message, I would like to ask that each for support from each of our families. As we venture through spring and towards the close out to the school year, we begin to see an increase in shenanigans with our students. A conversation at home on making good choices, appropriate language at school, engaging in kindness, and adhering to the school dress code would be much appreciated.

Have a fantastic day and a stellar close out to your week!
