Students, parents, families, and friends of KMS, 

That’s right, this week’s Principal’s Message is not only the last message for SY 23-24, but it is also the Jelly Roll edition. I’m not 100% sure who originally coined the phrase, “the windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror.” Perhaps it was Jeff Wickwire, author of the book by that name, or maybe it was some guru of long ago. Nonetheless, Jason Bradley DeFord, better known for his musical artistry under the name of Jelly Roll popularized this saying in upon winning iHeart Radio’s 2024 Best New Country Artist award. In his acceptance speech he stated, "The windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror for a reason. Because what's in front of you is so much more important that what's behind you." If you haven’t seen his speech, it’s totally worth a Google search, as it encapsulates so much truth. So, with this I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to our students, our families, the KMS community at large, and the KMS staff. It’s been a great year! I believe that with great endings come great beginnings. As we look toward summer break and beyond, I am excited of the greatness that lies ahead through the windshield that is the 2024-25 school year. Great things are to come for our KMS community, and I am excited to be partnering, once again, with an amazing group of students, parents, and staff to further our journey toward excellence. The past has been great, and the future looks even better!

For all of the 8^th grade students heading off to KHS and beyond, go with pride that you are well prepared for a great future. For our families that are heading off to new adventures, I wish you safe travels, great success, and will miss you very much. For our kiddo’s that will return next year, thank you for making KMS your school home. Summer is upon us, enjoy the well-deserved break!
