Principal's Message: "So Much Info. edition"

Students, parents, families, and friends of KMS. Today is a great day!

Yep, today is the day that you get your very first Principal’s Message for the 2024-2025 school year! For our returning KMS Knights, you will find many similarities to our communication from last year with a focus on continual improvement. For our new families, as an administration team, Ms. D’Angelo (Assistant Principal Extraordinaire) and I are committed to clear and timely communication with our school community. You will find evidence of this through a weekly Principal’s Message, regular “Coffee with Admin” events, and we are even rolling out some new ideas on how to best engage with our students, parents, families, and community. More on that to come!

Okay, let’s talk about some important stuff, and there is a lot!

If you are a peruser of Facebook and are following KMS, you may have already seen the items below show up over the last couple of days.

  • Counselors are back in the building next week to begin the process of scheduling our newly PCS’ing to KMS families, see flyer for dates and times. For awareness, if there are any requests for schedule changes from that which was selected back in May, please know that we must prioritize scheduling new students prior to making changes. This should not impact the ability to make a change but could mean that it would not occur until after school starts. Thank you in advance for your patience!
  • Check out the flyer for details about the August 16 Open Campus Orientation (pick up your schedule, walk around to find your classes, pick-up laptop, PTSA & More!).
  • First Day of School is Monday August 19th (Flyer with school hour information).
  • Open House will get here quick, August 27th is just around the corner. See flyer for more details!
  • Have you set up your lunch account yet? Check out the “School Lunch Information” pamphlet for all the information you need.
  • KMS is a 1:1 campus where each of our students has a dedicated Chromebook checked out to them, which allows for access to digital textbooks, curricular materials, and so much more. As we continue our journey into the digital world that our students live in, access to a school issued computer is imperative. See flyer for complete details:
  • August 8: Students who are returning to KMS may pick-up computers. Refer to flyer for details. The more students that can make it on this date the better, but If you can’t make this date, don’t fret. We will coordinate pick-up of computers when students return for those who can’t make it on this date.
  • August 16: New to KMS students may pick-up computers. Refer to flyer for details: The more students that can make it on this date the better, but If you can’t make this date, don’t fret. We will coordinate pick-up of computers when students return for those who can’t make it on this date.
  • School Supply List: Our staff worked diligently last spring to minimize the needed supplies for our students. In recognition of the often-limited availability for school supplies in our community, we developed this list to be as simple as possible.

As I close out my first message of the year, I would like to recognize that with the start of every school year comes varying emotions ranging from elation to nervousness. I think it’s fair to say that we can each identify with this, and with this comes Ms. D’Angelo and I committing to our school community to compassionate leadership. We look forward to meeting each of our students and families and are excited to see you soon.

With admiration,

Jason

The bottom of the badge has a ribbon with the year 2025 in the middle of it, and just below this ribbon it has the text "Award of Merit Website".

We’re excited to share that DoDEA has won the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) Publications and Digital Media Excellence Award – Website Award of Merit for our School Newsletters Project! This NSPRA award honors outstanding school communication efforts that help connect schools with their communities. This wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our amazing school webmasters. Thank you for keeping families connected with your hard work and heart!
